My Princess

Finally, I have delivered to a healthy, adorable baby girl on 19 July 2006.

I was 8 days overdue my EDD and the wait has finally paid off. After inserting 2 prostagladin tablets on 17 July (Monday, the day I admitted myself to be induced) and another in the evening of 18 July.

My cervix was only 1 cm open and my baby's head was only 3/5 engaged. To have my water bag burst and to get labour going, my cervix has to be at least 3 cm open. 6 hours after the second prostagladin tablet was inserted, my contraction progress. It was half past midnight (19 July) and my contraction came every 3 mins. My husband was already asleep and I simple couldn't get any sleep nor sit still.

I called for the nurse and decided to go to labour ward. There, I got my cervix examined again but it was still 1 cm open though my contraction had progressed. Tried to inhaled gas to relax myself but found it useless.

2 hours later, I decided to have epidural to ease the pain and relax myself as I believed I still have many hours to go before I am ready to deliver my baby. After having the epidural, managed to get some sleep and 3 hours later, the midwife checked my cervix and it has dilated to 3-4 cm. Yay! My gynae then came at around 7am to break my water bag which everyone was confident that I will deliver my baby by lunch time.

At around 12 noon, the midwife checked my cervix again. It has dilated to only 5cm. My baby's heartbeat also took a turn and occassionally slowed to below 110. I inhaled oxygen from then on to bring up my baby's heartbeat.

A couple of hours later, the midwife informed me that my gynae will be coming in a while and she mentioned that my cervix had progressed. She then prepared to teach me how to push.

At around 3pm, after doing a couple of "push" sets, my gynae came and told me that I am ready to deliver my baby. He was surprised with my last minute quick progress as he almost wanted to do a C-sect due to my initial slow progress as of 12 noon.

After, a few more rounds of push, my gynae then decided to use a rubber cup to assist my delivery. At 1557hours, my beautiful princess, Danynn, weighing 3.2kg, was safely born. My husband teared with great joy as soon as he saw our princess.

The entire exprience was indeed great and worthwhile.

Today, Danynn, is exactly 15 days old. My first week was hell especially me suffering from cracked nipples. I simply could not breastfeed her as it was very painful for me. To make things worse, Danynn, simply wake up almost every half an hour to an hour during the night. I was really in depression.

Now, I have recovered and with my husband's support, am coping well with my breastfeeding as well as taking care of Danynn, . Afterall, she is our bundle of joy.
